Bethany Wade - Growing and Living with Music all her Life!

Growing up in a house full of music, her parents would always play her something and say “listen to this, wouldn’t you love to play the saxophone” or “ We can imagine you being a singer like this” whilst Pink Floyd’s Great gig in the Sky blared through their speakers.

So at the age of 7, Bethany started saxophone lessons and explored a world of jazz music, falling in love with the freedom of improvising in particular. She also learnt to play the piano from around the same age but as her teacher stopped teaching Bethany decided to carry on by teaching herself which developed a strong ear.

As a keen singer, she picked up the guitar and learnt how to accompany herself confidently so she could sing at weekly open mic sessions.

Bethany studied for a Music Degree at Roehampton University and then a PGCE after taking a year out to travel.

She has since been Head of Music at 3 secondary schools and find unlimited joy in discovering new talent amongst students. Talent that was hidden and needed unlocking!

Bethany has played with Hammered Steel and now leads the 10 piece Steel Appeal Steel Band from Newquay in Cornwall who have a busy gigging schedule. Alongside gigging on the steelpan Bethany has been in several bands including playing alongside James Morrison. She has played keys and backing vocals in an original Prog Rock group called Nervosa and most recently been Christine McVie in a Fleetwood Mac tribute band.
