Memorial Tribute for the late Dr. Clifford Alexis

Pan Trinbago Inc. T.C. in collaboration with The University of Trinidad & Tobago and the Ministry of Community Development, Culture & The Arts will be hosting a memorial tribute for the late Dr. Clifford Alexis at Theatre 1, UTT NAPA Campus, Keate Street, Port of Spain, on Friday August 02, 2019 from 2:00 t0 4:00 pm

The “invitation only” event titled “Dr. Clifford Alexis…. The Best Kept Secret In Pan” takes the form of video, live messages and music tributes.

Pictorial montages depicting moments of his life spanning over five decades will be on display.

Compositions by Clifford Alexis will be performed by the National Steel Symphony (NSSO) with musical interludes by Shell Invaders at the start and end of the official program.

There will be a “live stream” on faceook.com/pantrinbago, WACK901fm.com, facebook, Youtube and website.

Members of the local and international steelpan community, his peers and family members have been invited. These include the Minister of Community Development, Culture & The Arts, Dr. the Hon. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Mrs. Yuko Asada-Alexis, Ms. Masaya Alexis, Mr. Ray Funk, Dr. Eugene Novotney (percussionist, composer, lecturer and adjudicator), Mrs. Joan Yuille-Williams, Barry Mannette, Robert Greenidge, Dr. Jeannine Remy, Len “Boogsie” Sharpe, Dr. Larry Synder, Mr. Mark Loquan, Mr. Ray Holman, distinguished members of the Pan Guard ie Lennox Bobby Mohammed, Emlyn Harewood and Dr. Anthony Williams ORTT.

Dr. Clifford Alexis is the recipient of a National Award, Chaconia Medal Silver in 2018 for his work and contribution to the steelpan.  Often referred to as the Stradivarius of the Steelpan, Alexis was an educator, arranger, steelpan tuner, composer and steelpan builder.

He was the co-director of the Northern Illinois University steelband program where he opened doors for many young people including Prof. Liam Teague, Dr. Mia Gormandy-Benjamin and Seion Gomez to name a few.

Clifford Alexis passed away in January 2019 at the age of 82 years in Illinois, USA.
