Re: CAPCA/BAS JUNIOR PANORAMA 2K8

The one thing people to forget that one Judge just happens to be the guy that had over age players in last years junior Panorama with Eclipse. There was a problem then when the Comets complained and look they came last...Hmm, funny that.  The lady Mayor was nice though she was bouncing her daughter on her lap and after the bands had finished she was then helped her to fill in her sheets.

Re: CAPCA/BAS JUNIOR PANORAMA 2K8

Thank you Panasonic and pan2it, you have just pipped me to the post with your posts! I was present on the day and can honestly say that i  regret  not  doing  anything  about last years  fiasco, I came along this time hoping that things would be different, but no. It does go some way to explaining why so few bands enter though, and it would seem that this has been the case for a number of years, I have heard through the grapevine that a band was pleaded with to enter on the competion day  one year and that the arranger refused because they had not registered and the children had not learnt a specific tune for the day. There was only two bands taking part that time allegedly . I laughed out loud when I saw Ebony turn up in their "year six end of term leaving little school goin to big school felt tipped shirts " what a p**s take!! I still had to laugh when they got the marks they did for presentation. Sometimes silence speaks far more than words, and that was self evident when the first results were read out by  Mark  Williams, poor Mark , was he not well? maybe he was coming down with something,  for no  matter  how much the audience tried they could not get the man to speak up, bit of advice for you Mark, next  time treat it like its a great big elastoplast, not little by little, one big rip, far less painful! And then to our lovely mayoress, oh dear, she really shouldn't let people help her, its not as if she had to do joined up writing or anything!! I will be writing to her next week, I do hope she will be able to get help with her post, poor thing! And before anyone starts shouting about that statement being  a lie, there is proof of scores (lots of scores) having been changed, there are a number of people who where shown the score sheets and there is other evidence which would hold up in any court of law. Which brings me to my final point regarding this sorry matter, money was awarded, and taken, and competion rules were broken. Give the money and the medals back. After all as someone from Ebony stated last week, for goodness sake it's all about the kids, yes thats right, NOT 18 YEAR OLDS. I will also be making a formal complaint to the BAS and also to the Children and Parents Carnival Association, hopefully I shall not be alone!!

Re: CAPCA/BAS JUNIOR PANORAMA 2K8

I do strongly agree with pansonic as well as others.

Quite honestly i do not care if people are aware of who i am, i personally think that it is wrong that ebony were allowed to compete and win second place.

The children from cso and comets were so disheartened at the results they have practiced so hard to acheive. All because they stick to the rules. both croydon and comets stuck to the rules 100% one person aged over 18 on percussion only. as far as i am aware CSI stuck to these rules as well so good on those three.

Think about how these kids are going to feel being cheated out of well deserved results. its not going to make them feel very happy now is it?

Now to something far more aggravating............

The mayoress :@:@:@:@:@

How can she be expected to be judging a competition when she is more interested in bouncing a child on her knees rather than actually marking the scoresheets ON HER OWN INITIATIVE AND NOT CHANGING SCORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am all for judges being able to converse about an arrangement when

1. they know what they are talking about

2. they are not being told what to do and where to do it.

This is all about the kids so come on people give them some credit the two croydon bands did not deserve their places they deserved higher. By far am i saying that CSI should not have won because they had a very powerfull well conducted tune, hats off to brent you did a great job.

This is something that really does need to be sorted out because pretty soon nobody is going to even bother as it seems the results are  decided before the tune is finished.

I heard that the mayoress marked the comets and croydon down on uniform... WHAT THE HELL they were a lot more uniform than ebony. at least they had matching smartish uniforms, i do not class felt tip ridden t shirts as uniform.

one last thing to rant about.

REGISTRATION FORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But apart from the misleading scoresheets and very peeved people it was a nice day.

Re: CAPCA/BAS JUNIOR PANORAMA 2K8

To be Honest, I have heard Comets a couple of times over the years and granted they used to be spectacular to listen too but recently something has changed, Players? Arrangers? Pans? who knows but they dont sound half as good as they used to.

This in turn has dented there moral i think which in turn has caused a downhill spiral. Yes Ebony should not have entered with out registering but at the end of the day it is a steelpan competition and ebony do make people sweat and not registering in time is a poor excuse for them not to play. I think the effort from all bands were amazing and the children should be proud. i think the results were justified in accordance with there playing. people do come last in competitions unfortunatly. I however think that comets put in 100 percent and were great i just think they need to sort out what ever is holding them back from what comets used to be.

Kind regards

Re: CAPCA/BAS JUNIOR PANORAMA 2K8

PanTOM. I think you are missing the point and it seems that you are more interested in scoring points for other unknown reasons. Where you there on the day? If you were then you would know exactly what others on this forum are saying. Yes somebody always has to come last, that is not in question. What is in question is whether the results were fair (which we know they weren't) and how it is that some bands can bend rules to suit themselves while others stick to the rules and are penalised.

Having a pop at a band over changes in staff and players doesn't come into this discussion. That is something that you should perhaps take up with the manager of that band.  I am sure that if you say you have  heard the Comets over the years then you will find a way to make contact with them. If changes did matter then you could ask why one arranger has left the band he always used to arrange for and has started another band up but it is of no interest here my friend. Bands change all the time, after all, Brent has changed bands, the sisters are now arranging for Ebony youth and so the list goes on.

Perhaps you would like to give an opinion on Ebony, CSI and Croydon's performance since you are so knowledgeable.

Just out of interest, do you play or teach at all or are you one of the many critics who have never lifted a pan or drum stick in their life? Not meaning to be personal, just curious.
